that was easy!

i went to fiddle with iRecordMusic this evening to see how close i could get to my plan of having recorded radio shows playing when i get home from work. well, a new version was available, for free, and it has built in integration with iTunes now! iRecordMusic will automatically update a playlist in iTunes for you when it records a stream.

i have a little proof-of-concept set up for tomorrow that will just play over the speakers of the Cube. My airport express is on order, so when it arrives i should be good to go!

I'm trying to get VNC working so i can remote-control the cube from my laptop in the living room. that way i can set up recordings and remove old ones i don't want without having to leave my sofa. so far i can get connected, but there's something wrong with the display and i can't see anything intelligible.

i checked on my recording this morning and found that the cube had hung so badly that i had to pull the power cable to reset it. i had forgotten that iRecordMusic has a tendency to do that.

if that keeps happening, i may need to reconsider the idea of buying a radioSHARK. maybe its software is more stable.

does iRecordMusic do that with all computers or just the cube? I'm still using RAW (the earlier version of iRecordMusic), and I'd like to upgrade, but not if it's going to crash my computer.

Just saw this, and was hoping you could get in touch, and we'll see if we can help resolve the issue. I will need some more detailed information as to what happens prior to the Mac Mini hanging. Thanks.

i'm not sure if i've ever used it with any computer other than the cube. however, i recall that RAW would do it, too. so maybe it is specific to the cube.

i may give it a try on the powerbook... as long as i don't want to record my own show, there's no reason the powerbook can't do it.

Hi Sarah,
It's a free upgrade to iRecordMusic so you can download the new version...

damn! Maybe I should writing in my web diary about software I use all the time in hopes that tech support starts reading it. Hey BBEdit, are you listening?

i just wanted to follow up on this, since d. claims i have a lot of google-juice and i want anyone searching for iRecordMusic to know that the problem i had was easily solved.

in the most recent version of the product, support for on-the-fly encoding with the LAME mp3 encoder is included. i've switched to using that (from the iTunes mp3 encoder) and have had no problems-- in fact i recorded for 8 hours continuously one night. this appears to be a very efficient setup.

ok, so a) your comment won't post right away because i have to approve it first and b) you might get a server error but your comment probably posted anyway and c) previewing doesn't work so i've removed the preview button.
