sleeping with the lights on
so last night i braved my bed, but kept a light on and had the cat come sleep with me. and kept the a/c a lot cooler than usual. the thinking being that cockroaches don't like light, cold, or predatory animals that will eat them.
as i was drifting off, i thought i felt one on my neck and freaked out, but never saw the thing and fell asleep a short while later. moseman woke me up at 5 to be fed (which is why i don't normally let him sleep on the bed with me at night), and then again at 7:30, but otherwise the night passed peacefully enough.
i filled the birdfeeder on the back patio and this is now a source of great entertainment for Certain People living in this household. he's out on the porch right now, in fact, enjoying the show.
tonight i'm going to get all the crap out of the basement, and it sounds as if i may have a few helping hands, which is exciting. i'm so very ready to make real progress on this project.
i hate my kitchen more and more. as my mom put it, now that i've decided to hate it, i really hate it. i know i don't have the smallest kitchen in durham, in fact i know at least two households who have smaller kitchens and believe me, i have no idea how they turn out the amazing food they make in those teeny little counter space deprived kitchens. that doesn't make me hate my kitchen any less. after the basement, it is next on the list, baby.

Will a cat actually eat a cockroach? I was under the impression that not many things like to munch on them, but of course I could be wrong.

good question. i can't recall if i've ever seen him consume one, although they do tend to attract his attention. i was hoping he'd act as an early warning system, if not actually a deterrent. plus, i find it comforting to have him there, even if he's not doing either of those things.
