[halloweenies] tim burton

the creepy fairylands that emanate from tim burton's mind are one of the best ways to boot oneself into a state of total halloweenie-ness, should one feel lacking during the month of october.

here i've chosen his most halloweenie-esque movies, just in case you're not familiar with burton and need some suggestions.

far and away the most halloweenie of them all is "the nightmare before christmas", which is the only one here that burton didn't actually direct. an added bonus to "nightmare" is that we get to hear danny elfman singing for the first time since oingo boingo. he has a great voice, and i realized when i first saw this movie how much i missed it after oingo boingo went away.

my second favorite is "sleepy hollow". i know a lot of folks would probably choose "beetle juice", or "edward scissorhands" (and of course, they're both high up in the pantheon), but i think the natural environments and the fact that it's a period piece are what do it for me. and, well, to be honest-- the dresses:

here's the complete list, least recent to most.

and coming in 2005: the corpse bride. i'm guessing that one is going to be a good halloweenie movie. just a wild guess.

Mmmm....Danny Elfman singing.

Oingo Boingo live (mid 80s) was one of the best shows I've ever seen.

While I love all the film work he does, I do miss his presence and his voice, a lot.
