this and that.

weather. glorious.

powerbook back in hand-- already! they installed the same OS as i had before on the new hard drive, so i've dodged the issue of paying for an upgrade, happily. hey, that's $100 i can spend on my vacation instead.

i'm starting to ponder what i'd like to do with the rest of my vacation time. the first half is pretty well planned out; the second half is rather open-ended. i feel a little more relaxed about finances than i did when i was first planning it. the savings and debt repayment are going really well. maybe... i could find my way to NYC? via plane or train from chicago or indy? that might be a little nuts... but just think, two fluevog stores in one week :)

the powerbook and cube are on the fast connection, the little amber light next to 100 is lit up on the router. the data is transferred and now i'm re-loading apps.

but... well, i like using the cube. i like having desk space, a chair, an open window and sunlight pouring in in the mornings. i've straightened up the no-man's-land of the back bedroom a bit while working back here, and maybe my nose is dead, but i can't smell the litterbox at all.

i'm rather attached to this space. i find myself reluctant to transfer my email back over to the powerbook.

ok, i'm going to hide the rest of this under the MORE link, cause it's about BPAL and only a few of you are interested in that.

how much is too much? i found myself asking that question today as i contemplated The Dormouse, and the large number of items in the PAID section of my BPAL spreadsheet. i've got a lot coming my way in the next two months. possibly, R'lyeh (described as EVIL GRAPEFRUIT!) could arrive today, along with Fenris Wolf and-- a scent that puts people to sleep-- Sloth.

last night i decided to narrow down the notes i've tried, and the notes i might like to try. i've been distracted by things that are what i think of as "novelty scents"... stuff that smells like dirt, cherry pipe tobacco, or irish coffee. honestly, those are some of my favorite BPAL's so far-- but i can't really wear them as perfume, and they're things that ought to be saved for cooler weather.

no, i'm feeling anxious now to find things that i want to smell like. i think it's safe to say that the "green" scents-- the things described as smelling like any kind of foreset-- are hit or miss on me, and i need to abandon that tack.

at first i avoided all florals, but have been startled to find that the sweetest, most floral scent i've tried (pink moon) is the one i keep going back to and looking forward to wearing. i'm still wary of Extreme Floral Action, but less so now.

So the general areas I'm exploring next are... aquatic scents, crisp scents, and things that are on the sexier side-- i think of these as "dark red" scents. actually-- i like the idea of colors for groups of scents. i saw someone describe Danube as "blue and white", and as it has an aquatic note, that seems appropriate. The crisp scents-- citrus, linen-- I like to think of as a sort of clean celery green-- quite different from the dark forest green of "green" scents.

so, to that end, i have found a few things of interest on LJ and the Forum that do not overlap with what I already have coming from the Lab. The Dormouse, Danube, Amsterdam, Blood, Vixen, Shuld, and Spellbound should all find their way to me in the next week or two.

i had this idea that i'd try to write my reviews in haiku, so as to force myself into economy. we'll see. i've also had this idea that i should test my new scents with a toothpick, just a small dab, instead of getting carried away with excitement every time i get a little package in the mail, and drowning myself in every scent in the package right away. i'm still working on that one.

I tried a toothpick once but I dipped the toothpick too far in and it soaked up the oil which may not have actually used up much oil, but seemed wasteful. I try to dab lightly with the wand the first time I try a new scent.
