pastrami on rye
is there a place around here where one could get a good pastrami on rye sandwich?
(looks in the general direction of the mondo mundo lounge )

that's a very good question. alas, i do not have a very good answer. i can't think of anywhere that i'd go if i wanted a pastrami sandwich. i think the last one i had was at Rick's Diner. it was fine, but nothing i'd go out of my way to get. sadly, Chapel Hill's Sandwhich (haven't been yet but i really want to check them out) does not seem to do pastrami.

ah, the internets... is there nothing they can't do?
after searching my brain turned up little, i tried searching online. piedmont, it seems, does a pastrami sandwich at lunch.

and they're making their own pastrami. it's not on rye bread but you can't have everything, i suppose

According to Chowhound, you can get a pastrami sandwich at Piedmont. If you want kosher-style, you are probably out of luck.

I had a corned beef on rye at Bull McCabe's that I enjoyed. According to wikipedia, corned beef and pastrami are similar.

Ah, I guess it's a shame that "New York, New York" is gone, isn't it? I haven't had the pastrami at Piedmont yet, so I can't comment. The big differences between corned beef and pastrami are that pastrami (1) is smoked, and (2) has a "crust" of crushed peppercorns and coriander.
The next time I make pastrami (which may be a long time), I'll try to get you some. Also, I send a note to a friend of mine who also makes pastrami, and asked his opinion. I live to serve. :)

I don't know whether they have prepared foods, but for kosher ingredients, have you tried the Sabra Israeli food store down by City Beverage?
