cheese is good
yesterday, i went back on atkins. like full-on, what they call 'induction', the really restrictive first phase that everyone is supposed to start with. having gained back about half of the weight i lost in... was it 2002? 2003? i can't remember... i decided i needed to be very serious about weight loss again for a while. i hope this time i can get down further than i did the first time.
yesterday i felt fine, but today i had a lot of fatigue and hunger and even a little queasyness. on atkins, you can eat all you want and you can eat lots of meat and fats and veggies, but i find i still have to eat almost constantly sometimes. i'm trying to cut back on caffiene pretty severely, too, so it's hard to know what's causing the fatigue, but it doesn't really matter.
the funny thing is how easily i've gotten back into the groove. once you learn how, it isn't that difficult, which is not to say that i'm immune from temptation. i'll be avoiding it as much as possible for a while. the guys at work are like, "well, can't you still go to char-grill and just not eat the bun or the fries?" well, yeah, and i've done that before but please don't put me in that position any time soon. really.
the other funny thing is how the oddest things become decadent. right now i'm snacking on some double gloucester cotswold (a very rich cheddar with flecks of chive) and it seems so very extravagant and comforting.
:|:
today nearly became another tiredly boring day (ok, so i was dealing with fatigue and getting my kitchen in order and that sort of thing), but mary happily rescued me from all of that with a trip to SRI. i finally found a pair of black low top chucks in my size-- i've been wanting some for a while. i also got a pair of extremely comfortable yet ladylike kitten heels in a shiny orange-brown.

I think it must have been 2003 that you were on it before, because I started in Sept 2002 and I remember you started a few months after me.
I hate the burger without the bun thing. to me it's just depressing. I try to avoid that "hold half my meal, I'll just eat the boring part" way of eating as much as possible. Not that I always succeed :)
anyway glad your first couple of days have been a success!

Double Gloucester with chives is my very favorite cheese ever! Mmmmmm. Now I've got to go get me some.

Re: shoes. I'm curious what patterns you have for storing your stuff, and for purging things from time to time. Having been to your house a couple of times, I think of it as "full but not cluttered." Which means that for every new pair of SRI shoes that comes in, something has to give. Do you have a system? Or an attic? Or is this how you get Moses to lose weight ("Cat, I need 1 lb. of room for some new shoes - so, time to exercise yourself!")
Oh and yes, I am currently in purging mode at my house, in case you were wondering.

ah, so glad you asked.
i operate seasonally. (and by seasons i mean the cold season and the hot season.)
i do have an attic.
shoes that i won't wear in winter get stored in shoe boxes in the attic when it starts to get cold. at each season is an opportunity for purging... did i wear those shoes very much last season? if not, they had better go.
my shoe wardrobe goals are two-fold.
first, the number of shoes i have for a season needs to fit into the two storage racks in my closet. if it starts to overflow, i may need to make some hard decisions.
second, i don't ever want to not be able to wear an outfit because i don't have the right shoes. i want to have a diverse enough shoe wardrobe that i can wear all of my clothes and never feel like i don't have the right shoes.
i do purge all parts of my house periodically, with the exception of the basement and the back bedroom, both of which need major work. to some degree i have the hang of maintenance purging-- never letting things get so cluttered that i can't trim things down in an afternoon-- but that's mainly only working with the main living spaces in my house right now. the closets have gotten bad again.

have you got any extra shoe boxes? I've finally got enough shoes that I need to rotate them seasonally, but I always throw away the boxes so I have noplace to store the out-of-season shoes.

I love have you give an offhand mention of the basement.
Hey, and make sure to check out today's Archer Pelican, eh?
