December 19, 2003

eh.

i think the holiday singleness panic is hitting; after months of no replies to my personal, i've gotten two "winks" in the last two days. "winks" are what used to be called "collect calls"... they don't cost anything for the sender, but to reply it will cost me money.

unfortunately, neither of my winkers (that just sounds dirty, in a british sort of way) are even remotely appealing to me. one had almost no information in his ad, and the other.. just didn't seem very fun or attractive (to me).

the next time i complain about a dearth of guys, you can remind me that i got two "winks" and wasn't interested.

Don't panic! The whole "online-dating" scene can be a mind trip! I've had an ad posted on and off for quite some time, with limited results, and have conluded that, for me, it's better to remain single and hope to meet some one the old-fashioned-way rather than seek it out. Of course, ennui gets the best of me and I find myself scrolling through ads again only to be dissapointed in the same old batch of faces.

i'm actually about as far from panicking as it is possible to be. i think other people are panicking.

ok, c'mon, fess up anonymous person-- what is your handle on the personals?

we're all friends here.

HA! I accidentally posted that comment anonymously! I realized it after it was too late. I'm actually Christa's cousin, Joy. I have an ad posted with springstreet, via the Onion.com, however, it's in "invisible" mode at the moment. It's in dire need of an update and an injection of whimsy. Plus, it seems that all the available men in my area (Arizona) are dolts. Seems to me there are far more interesting folks, both male and female, in your part of the country.
I re-read your post and finally made the connection between panic and the panicking party. Initially, I thought it was you panicking due to being single during the holidays and now I understand the correlation between the months of no responses and two winks just received. I can be slow some times.

hi joy! welcome to my blog! this blog lives about three blocks away from christa's blog :)

i've looked at the ads in other areas, out of curiosity and on behalf of friends. i have one friend who lives in indianapolis, and the pickings are depressingly slim out there. she gets down on herself sometimes, she thinks it's her. i finally made her do a search on my area, so she could see the difference location can make.

i've had my ad up for close to a year now; i think there may be some yearly patterns. i think there's a rush in the spring, and perhaps another rush right around these pesky holidays.

anyway. i realize i'm picky, and i'm lucky to have that luxury.

ok, so a) your comment won't post right away because i have to approve it first and b) you might get a server error but your comment probably posted anyway and c) previewing doesn't work so i've removed the preview button.
