caravaneers

the roswell caravan is looking really small-- only four or five cars so far, and they're only one day out from roswell. hopefully they will run into the houston group at the dairy queen and get to travel with a larger group as they head into town.

for perspective, the first year, i think the final car count coming into roswell together was something like 56? and we had a good 35 cars after dallas. in subsequent years the number has dwindled, but even last year we had at least a dozen going into roswell, i think.

it's a little sad, but it does offer advantages. the logistics of a 35 car caravan are tricky.

anyway, someone is posting pictures, but i need to get to bed i suppose... i'll see them tomorrow.

here they are at the motel in sweetwater, tx.

sweetwater is a tiny little town in the desert, about half a day out from roswell. the first year, we stopped there for lunch, and caused a huge commotion. they trotted out the mayor and the newspapers. spacepod was even on the tv news one year after they interviewed a bunch of us on our stop in sweetwater (i think-- i never saw it). in later years, the caravan pushed the schedule ahead and got there in time to spend the night on thursday night. the motel where we all stay is an old style route 66 kinda motel that has probably never known a major renovation, but is nevertheless well-maintained.

i have happy memories of sitting out by the pool, uploading photos and updating the web site, while stephanie worked on beading a skate costume or just kept me company.
