BPAL: Shattered, The Premature Burial
shattered
"A scent as sharp as glass shards, and as brittle as a broken heart. A blend of white champagne notes, grapefruit, lotus, slivered mint and crystalline aquatic blooms."
Wet, the mint comes forward, and it's the exact same mint as in Tulzcha. Yay! Tulzcha is really my favorite hot-weather scent, but it's a limited edition. Shattered, on the other hand, is in the general catalog (so long as there isn't a drought that kills the grapefruit harvest).
After much drying, this warms into a light skin scent, then disappears.
the premature burial
"Oppressive darkness, expressed through black orchid and patchouli, smothered by wet soil, a coffin’s teakwood, and the funereal gloom of cypress."
This scent was part of the Malestrom series, a tribute to Poe's short stories.
Wet, this is a womanly, complex scent. There's a distinct floral component (that would be the orchid, I guess), but it's not off-putting although there are many florals I dislike. I am a little sad to note that it reminds me of commercial perfume, although I don't dislike it.
With some drying time, the woods come forward, although the patchouli is so well-blended that I never get a hint of "hippie shop". This is a little spicy, and very sophisticated. I can see it being more appealing in cool weather. I like it well enough to keep most of it, but won't regret swapping off an imp or two.
