blast

finally decided this morning to stay home today and not go to the massive auto-fair in charlotte. i was pretty torn, but there's a lot to do at home.

got the westy into the garage and spent about an hour sandblasting. it's going to be a very slow job i think. anyone who is interested in trying sandblasting is welcome to come help. as renovation projects go, it's actually not that unpleasant, but it's also probably not as sexy as it sounds.

apparently it does help ya work up an appetite, though, because i'm starving now!

We had a sandblaster at work at one point -- had to sandblast some baking racks in order to get them to meet kosher standards (who knew?) but I never got the chance to mess with it. I am, perhaps, not the first choice for operating power tools, but am generally okay in operations of focused destruction. Today at the Auto Fair was actually rather miss-able. Most of the buzz or howl was on Saturday. Sunday started out sparse and ended up deserted so today as a stand-alone day was maybe not worth the 1.5 hour drive and admission/parking fees.

yeah, i suspected that sunday was going to be a slow day, especially after reading sarah's blog entry from saturday.

if you'd like to give the sandblasting a try, you're more than welcome. i'll probably be out there almost every evening this week, barring work related exhaustion and other unforseen unfortunateness. i'd say that it's extremely focused destruction!

I wonder if Georg had to use kosher sand?

OOOooo, I want to sandblast....!! What kind of media are you using? I seen this stuff on TV that uses a mix of sand and something else which protects the metal from damage during the process and looked totally cool. Not to mention, I have experience sandblasting years agao when i was a chimney sweep and use to SB the smoke chamber (located just above the fireplace) and that was a bitch ecspecially in the summer time.....

i'm using plain old play sand. my rig is fairly low power, so damage to the metal isn't really an issue. just let me know when, and i'll put you to work :)
