big yay westy!
spoke with mark this morning. he says the valves were in a good place and he was able to adjust them just fine. that's very good news.
he also said they think i got a very good deal on the price of the van when i bought it. they had one on the lot with a better exterior, the interior was a lot worse than mine, and it had a blown engine-- and it went for the same price as i got mine for. he said, "because if someone gypped you, i'd have to kill them. you know that, right?" aww. my mechanic is all protective of me. apparently his wife used to get taken regularly over cars before they met.
he told me yet more horror stories of dealerships... jeebus. all i can say is... tread with caution... and remember that warranty work never pays the mechanic anywhere near as much as other work.
he said he made up some flyers this weekend that said, "want an alternative to the dealerships?" heh.
i ran into some friends over the weekend and we got to talking about TDI's, and i mentioned that mark is now at lonnie's. in unison they said, "We love lonnie's! He's great!!"
so anyway, if they can track down a timing belt-- and get it to pass inspection-- i can get it this evening.
still gotta deal with those stupid coolant hoses in some way.. but for the moment, 9 Westy is in a good place.
