saw the triplets of belleville tonight with christa. i liked it because a) it was good and b) featured quite a few citroen 2cv's (with elongated front ends). the music is also quite good. i highly recommend.
you know, i didn't even notice the cars! well, there was that one that toppled, end-over-end, down the hill. that one i noticed. but others, no.
but can we still be friends? :)
the music ROCKED! i really want a copy of the triplets' theme song.
Posted by: christa on February 23, 2004 11:00 AMthis citroen was basically the vw beetle of france; they're extremely common in france and probably all of western continental europe. i think they are just about as cool as old vw's if not actually cooler looking! i am not sure if they are aircooled or not, but wouldn't be surprised if they are. anyway, i was anticipating that we'd see at least one, given the time period and location of the movie; i was delighted that the Big Chase Scene was composed entirely of them!! the long front-ends are an exaggeration for this film, i think, however; haven't ever seen a picture of one with a front end like that.
anyway, yes, we can still be friends :) man, i want the whole soundtrack, it was great!
Posted by: lisa on February 23, 2004 11:13 AMuh, sorry the movie stopped in the middle of the trailers. the projectionist before me had changed the aspect ratio from 1.33 (academy) to 1.87 (US standard flat), which it was not supposed to be shown in. i didn't catch on until the middle of the second trailer. i think the matting effect of the 1.33 aspect ratio is really important to the film's aesthetic, and, since there were folks i knew in the audience, i didn't want everything to look all wrong!
Posted by: rick! on February 23, 2004 11:42 AMyou know, i think that's only the kind of thing you remember if the movie is boring. since it was a good movie, i had forgotten all about that until you said something :)
i probably would not have noticed the incorrect aspect ratio, because it wasn't an extreme change, but thanks for catching and correcting it.
