Yes, there is a reason I have a nasty attitude.
Open letter to the people who just came to my door:
You didn't look like scary people. I was pretty sure you just wanted to collect for a charity or give me information about your religion. After all, one of you did say "God bless you" as you turned to leave, and I had not just sneezed.
One of you asked, though, if there is a reason why I have a nasty attitude. I wish I'd had the presence of mind to say "Yes" instead of "Goodbye".
There are scary people who have come to my door. In fact, the scariest people who ever came to my door-- and tried some of the well-know tricks to be let into my house-- arrived while I was home with a broken arm, feeling particularly helpless. I remember I kept my axe near me for the rest of the day after that.
I think my nasty attitude was the only thing that kept me safe that day.
You're young, and maybe you don't yet realize that fear makes people act in particular ways.
I'm not friendly to strangers who come to my door.
I hope that answers your question.

"I'm not friendly to strangers who come to my door" would be a great sign to put up instead of something like4 "No Soliciting."
I hate it when strangers come to my door, But since there's a big window with a semi-transparent curtain panel, I can't really go see who it is and then pretend I'm not home. But in my new house (yes, blog post to come), I should be able to hide from people ;-)
