Well, I'll be. I'm on LJ.

For those of you who have me on their LJ friends list, but have never seen an entry from me, I imagine my appearance on your friends list is a bit of a surprise. Today I discovered that there's a plug-in for my blog software that will automatically cross-post my blog entries to Livejournal. And what do you know? It actually works. Here I am. Prepared to be bored out of your skull as I post endless tracts on the water in my basement.

hey, did you use LJcrosspost? I was just playing with that this morning but ran into problems.

Yes! I saw your test post on your blog before you took it down. One of my LJ friends had asked me if I could cross-post my entries, but until now I thought the only way to do it was by upgrading to a paid LJ membership. So I was very excited when I saw your post.

It worked flawlessly for me. My implementation is the simplest possible, although I may try to drive comments and extended entries back to my blog, or at least get a link back to my blog in every entry. I'm not wild about having comments on LJ separate from comments on my blog, although I realize that a lot of people perceive the comments on my blog as broken because of the error messages that often crop up-- so if they're more inclined to post comments to my LJ then I'll be glad. I'm a comment ho :)

OK I tried again and now it's working. The problem I had before was that it wouldn't rebuild an older post -- when I made a new post, it conked out while trying to rebuild the previous post. But on the second new post (when the previous post had already been built using the LJcrosspost tag) it went fine.

I don't like having LJ comments separate either. I turned off comments on LJ and added a "post a comment" link at the bottom of the entry that links back to the MT entry page.

ok, so a) your comment won't post right away because i have to approve it first and b) you might get a server error but your comment probably posted anyway and c) previewing doesn't work so i've removed the preview button.
