Gutters are a total fucking fraud. They're designed to enrich home repair people. Landscape your house so the water runs away from it, and free yourself from the gutter-snipe gutter-hangers.

Don't hire the guy who did our roof -- they took 9 months to finish the gutters. It should be a two-week job, if that.

Just in case he should move to North Carolina, which is unlikely, the company is American Pride and the owner is Richard Smith.

joe: gutters also keep water off the sides of the house and the windows, and in my case, it is supposed to keep water out of the screen porch, but doesn't.

several of the locations where i have problems don't have any earth under the gutter, or such a small area that grading is a problem. it would be best if i could direct the water from my roof into a storm drain system or water cache, in most cases.

stephanie: i'll keep that in mind :)

I wish I could find the thing by the guy who was some sort of house expert and had finally decided to do without gutters. Are you eave-less? I can't remember. I guess if you're eave-less, then gutters are more necessary.

On our house they're necessary, too; in the 9 months we were without them, the water damage to the paint on the siding was extensive.
