Probe traces drive-in fire to hot lawn mower
to summarize: the screen was not insured; in addition to money issues in getting the screen rebuilt, it looks like there may be zoning issues as well, but Bob wants to persevere and get it rebuilt.
I am having persistent thoughts of trying to organize some kind of benefit for them, but it would be awful to have a successful fundraiser and then not be able to rebuild due to zoning issues. Now, I do have an idea for this fundraiser and it's not a rock show and it's not a movie.
But here's the thing. I'm busy. Really busy. Like, cancelling plans to go out of town because I'm too busy to leave town kind of busy.
Nevertheless, if you have any interest in helping the Starlite in some way, get in touch.

does it strike you as strange that a drive-in cannot be zoned for "neighborhood business," but a gun shop can?

Come on, Lisa -- if Christa can raise $3400 in 5 days for a dog, surely you can raise a billion or so for a drive-in? ;)

Yeah, I figured you were going to say that. ;) And I did help out with the Corn Dog. But I have a soft spot for dachshunds; I don't go to the movies much. The idea of going to a drive-in has never appealed to me. Asi es la vida.

I saw a small article in the 27 August Durham Herald-Sun about a local group doing fundraising for the Starlite. Unfortunately, I forgot to tear out the article, and I can't find it online.
