surfeit
now is the time of year when we are eating, eating, eating. i made christmas cookies this weekend and yes, ate a few. tomorrow is the department luncheon at a restaurant. due to dinner at federal tonight, including a milk stout (yummy!) i am feeling very full right now, and a little headachey, which is what makes me think of it.
plus, i am watching cooking shows. how does that woman in "everyday italian" make such rich food and stay so tiny? it's weird.
my friend from virginia (who needs a better nickname here, but i can't think of one) came to visit this weekend. he's an appreciative audience for the small amount of cooking that i do while he's here, but i find i am not very good at coming up with ideas for things to make. "everyday italian" and "30 minute meals" have gone into the TiVO. it probably wouldn't hurt for me to build up my recipe collection, anyway.
he also looked at my foot, the only person to do so besides the doctor. the bruising was at its peak, and he proclaimed it to be "corpselike" in appearance. i felt vindicated. i really did get hurt! i wasn't faking. since no one really saw me when i was limping, it kind of felt as if the whole thing was invisible.

Nickname: how about "the other FFV" (the first being Famous Foods of Virginia who used to make the Girl Scout cookies).

Corpselike -- maybe you should find some goths and play it for what it's worth....

obviously all the everyday italian chick's food goes directly into her huge, huge head.

i made the most amazing sausage this weekend -- a recipe from 30 minute meals: http://tinyurl.com/7j6uf
totally easy, and relatively impressive.
rachel ray generally irritates the fuck out of me, but i like how she's no-nonsense about saving time.
i've also been guiltily watching "semi-homemade cooking" semi-frequently. the show is at times a revelation and at other times a true abomination. her "tablescapes" at the end of every episode generally make me pee my pants.
for the nickhame, how about J3? or JC?

alicia: you made me snork. possibly some of it goes to her breasts, too, although magically NONE of it lands on her belly, hips, or butt. maybe she's not genetically female.
christa: i think almost everyone on the food network is annoying in their own special way. emiril... alton brown... even the everyday italian woman. rachel just fits in.
i'm starting to become amused by the total lack of presentation in her dishes. she's rushing so much to convince everyone that YES YOU TOO CAN DO THIS IN THIRTY MINUTES! EE-VEE-OH-OH, THAT'S EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL! that presentation just goes out the window. on her christmas dinner show, she made this utterly appalling "fudge wreath" that was truly worthy of those old recipe cards from the 70's that Archie McPhee includes with every order. complete with not only red but also green marischino cherries. geah.
i think once we get out of the holidays she'll probably get back into more palatable stuff. maybe this is a time of year when one should devote more than 30 minutes to a meal, if possible.
as for the nickname, i can see some potential problems with all of the suggestions so far, so i'll keep thinking on it. maybe he should simply be known as The Man From The North, or TMFTN.

christa: i forgot to ask. is that a good kind of pants-peeing, or a bad kind? (i've never seen the show.)

the bad kind. mouth agape, jaw dropped to the floor. so bad you can't look away.
one good thing about the semi-homemade show, though, is that she ALWAYS includes a cocktail recipe. ;-)

M's been trying the recipes from RRay's book 30minmeals 2 recently, with some definite keepers and only a few we've decided aren't worth salvaging.

ok, so a) your comment won't post right away because i have to approve it first and b) you might get a server error but your comment probably posted anyway and c) previewing doesn't work so i've removed the preview button.
