"Nobody goes there, it's too crowded."

twice this week i have gone to federal intending to dine. both times there were no tables and we had to leave. the first time was the usual monday evening post-xdu board meeting time, a time when finding a table is usually not a big deal.

WTF?

so, as d. and s. and i repaired to the new asian bistro at american tabacco last night (tom yum style is yummy!), we decided it's time we broke out our stories about how YOU SHOULDN'T GO TO FEDERAL.

here's my story: the rubber band in my hamburger. yes, one night, there was a large, purple rubber band nestled in the greens atop my hamburger, coated lightly in dijon mustard. ewwww.

DON'T GO TO FEDERAL.

Coincidentally, Sarah and I were having a very similar experience (well, without the rubber band) at City Beverage the other night. It was Thursday and the place was over-run with bar patrons. Which is fine I suppose, except it made trying to be a restaurant patron frankly intolerable (oh the noise noise noise noise...). On the way back we were trying to decide if it was worse than that time we were at Federal eating at that counter and then grabbing the uncleaned table vacated by a family with small children. The main edge at CB has over Fed is that CB is non-smoking so at least one of the senses is remaining unassaulted

Wow, I remember back when the Federal opened, it was generally sparsely populated and the hangout for Literature grad students (for those of you who don't know, in the hierarchy of grad students, Lit grad students are the coolest). We (the history grad students) would sometimes go in there, trying to act cool and pass as Lit students. We usually blew our cover.

Now everyone and their grandmother hangs out at the Federal. Times a-changin'.
