more mmmm

shopping yesterday with s.; she wisely volunteered to drive, knowing after our adventure on sunday, i might not want to. and she was right.

shopping went very well and i shouldn't have to wander around in t-shirts while its 20 degrees out any longer.

last night i started thinking about all the things i would like to do during the break, and i gave in and made a list.

this morning, i deleted the file.

when my stepfather was attempting to describe how great the tour company for their trip to italy had been, he said, "i don't think your mom made even one list!" in that moment, i knew where i got the list thing from.

a lot of the time, lists feel good. i like making them, i like reading them, and i like checking things off of them. but this particular list made me feel just awful, so i had to get rid of it. i felt like it was hanging over me.

today i shopped a little more and was treated to a surprise vomit encounter in the target bathroom. i think i need to avoid public restrooms during flu season, this is two years in a row now. i know; better to be a witness than to be a victim. it just happens to be a mild phobia of mine.

tomorrow, i swear, i'll do something other than shop...

i am a list person, too.
when i make myself a list of things to do, i feel like i make more efficient use of my time. busy, busy, busy. having a list makes me feel productive and energetic. when i'm list-less i'm listless.

har har.

I'm another list person, and I know I got it from my dad. He used to make detailed itineraries for our family vacations and actually follow them. Once we showed up at the home of a faraway friend at the time specified on the itinerary, and no one was there. For hours. Around the time we got a hotel room, they got home. "Didn't you get the copy of the itinerary I sent?" bellowed my dad. "Well, sure, I got it," said the friend, "I just didn't think you'd actually follow it!" Anyone who knew my dad pretty well would have known he would definitely follow it.

Sometimes lists are good and useful, but if a list makes you feel bad deleting it is the thing to do.

Eww about the Target bathroom. I try to avoid public restrooms whenever possible for reasons like that one.

My weird thing about public restrooms is that I don't mind using them, but I hate touching the door handle. Because you know there are people who don't wash their hands. I saw a special on TV news once where they had someone put glow in the dark stuff on their hands and then walk around opening doors. It was so gross! The door handles were covered in it.

If at all possible I open bathroom doors with a paper towel. (I also hate touching the paper towel dispenser, but I haven't figured out a way around that. Besides, I figure everyone touching that has probably washed their hands.)

This makes me sound really compulsive doesn't it? But really, public door handles carry tons of germs.

i do think about the door handle thing, but i usually don't let it bother me too much. however, i will admit that when i got back to my car, i sanitized my hands with purell-- i keep a little bottle in my glove box, because it's good for cleaning up if i get diesel fuel on my hands.
