maybe my next volkswagen should be a honda.

hey, guess what? my two year old car, which i've had for six months, and which has 34k miles on it, and only has 24k on the current clutch... needs a new clutch.

or at least, so the dealership says, based on the horrible smell it's producing. MFM will be taking over next week, since it won't be covered under warranty.

for comparison, spacepod's original clutch was replaced at around 100k due to a bad release bearing, and MFM told me i had 20-30k left on the clutch plate at that time. i'm not hard on clutches.

if anyone needs me, i'll be in the angry dome. or at least the exasperated dome.

god, that sucks. Is it possible that the previous owner was overly hard on the clutch?

that's possible, although MFM agreed that it seems farfetched.

it's possible something was done badly when the first clutch was replaced, or that the real source of the problem was not resolved with the clutch replacement. if that's the case, i hope MFM can correctly diagnose the problem.
