kreme

every friday, my company provides a small breakfast. it's either bagels or doughnuts.

this morning i walked into the breakroom and was dismayed to discover boxes of krispy kreme's. i really wanted one-- but that's the worst possible thing i could do right now, right on up there with drinking a regular dr. pepper or eating lumps of brown sugar (which i have actually done when in the throes of a really bad sugar craving). i've been ignoring the doughnuts and bagels for over a year now so i can definitely do it. just this morning it was a little harder than usual.

there's a woman i work with who has a perfect figure (as women judge other women's figures, anyway). petite, slender. her clothes always fit perfectly; her hair is always curly and not frizzy, tousled in a flattering, expensive-haircut kind of way. her complexion is clear, her voice muted.

and she's standing there, shoving a krispy kreme into her mouth right there in the breakroom.

whatever.

lumps of brown sugar ... mmm ...

know what I used to eat when I was deeply craving sugar? a spoonful of maple syrup. ugh. makes me queasy to think about it now.

oh, i had forgotten this until now. i used to pour capfuls of fake maple syrpup and drink it, like drinking a shot of tequila (except without the lime and the salt).

i would also take a lump of butter and press white sugar into it and eat that. tasted like a sugar cookie.

Regarding the "perfect figure, etc." woman eating the donuts, is she dating anybody? er, I mean, BITCH! ;-)

In my brief career as a commuter to Morrisville, I never made it to work on time, in part because I was a late riser, and in part because I'd stop at the Amoco station to buy a dozen KK's to share. When I'd get to work, I'd walk by all the offices and cubes, offering donuts to the folks who had been sitting around working for an hour.

My goal was to get rid of all the donuts before I ate any (I was a little overweight at the time). Under the best circumstances, I'd get the colleagues to love me and forgive my lateness, while indulging my need to buy sweets without indulging my need to eat them.
