it begs the question
i've been happily divesting myself of posessions. today i actually sold a pair of shoes. shoes i liked, even! i felt a few pangs of regret as the buyer literally danced around in them and exclaimed over their cuteness, but you know, i have other shoes. and now i also have $20.
i was ecstatic to discover that the local goodwill is open until 8:30pm on weekdays now. i carted a hatch-full of stuff over there this evening and have another hatch-full ready to go tomorrow.
but as i work my way through things i no longer want or need, there's one item that confounds me.
what does one do with a 5'x5' paper maiche tiki head?
i guess i'll tear it apart and try to recycle the cardboard frame.

Oh dang, I just bought one of those last week! And it's non-returnable!! :-)
I'm 300% with you on the joy of getting rid of stuff. Every few weeks I dig through another layer of things that I thought would be worth carting around, but that are proving not worth it at all. And I'm also getting rid of a mess of stuff at my parents' house via (luck of luck) a neighborhood yard sale. Hooray!
Other begged question -- how did you sell the shoes? Craigslist? Listserv? Yard sale?

for the shoes-- we have an online bulletin board at work where we can sell personal items. it's far and away the easiest way to sell little stuff, like a little yard sale.

Noooo, don't tear apart the tiki head--take it to Goodwill! Someone will buy it, I totally swear! I used to loooove finding stuff like that at goodwill ... which is why I've got way too much stuff ... but still, you could totally make someone's day!

I want to get on this bandwagon - I have tons of stuff I want to offload in the next couple months.

lisa b: do YOU want it?
over on the LJ side of my blog, someone suggested i put it in the traffic circle, which is not a half bad idea, actually.

Have a party at which you set the tiki head on fire. I suggest rum drinks with little umbrellas as accoutrements. "Lisa's Flaming Tiki Head Party:" we'll be talking about it for years.

i can just see it now... 20 people drunk out of their minds on zombies set fire to a giant paper maiche tiki head.
a spark catches the dead tree that fell in the recent winds. it goes up in flames, and in turn sets the woods behind my house on fire.
GOOD TIMES!

EXACTLY! It'll be just like in Tortilla Curtain. And if we've had enough to drink, we can run around and pee on the fire.

Or how about filling it with helium, or tying helium balloons to it, and floating it off to where the winds will take it? Maybe some navigational lights could be installed, or it could also be set on fire when launched. It'd be like Gary Larson's "floating head of death."

You could put it atop the Westy. But then you couldn't set it on fire.

i think joe is the only person who wants to set it on fire.

Thanks but, no, I don't want it ... I need to get rid of exactly 1/2 of my possessions ... I had an estate sale habit back when I lived in Chicago, and now I have all this neat stuff that's really just in the way. I should have a yard sale, but the thought of dealing directly with throngs of people frightens me. maybe I'll sell things one by one on craigslist ...

Oh all right, just put it in the traffic circle then. Maybe it'll catch on fire all by itself. :) I still think some sort of Polynesian-themed party is called for though.
By the way, how in the world did you come by this?
