i'd like a set of wrenches, and a bra please.

i love sears!

i got my first set of wrenches today. the tool dood at sears was most helpful, confirming that indeed a vw would require metric wrenches and advising me on which set to get, without being condescending.

then i headed over to the lingerie section and attempted to rectify the sorry state of my upper body support garments, with limited success. if only the sales people in that area were as helpful as the tool guys!

at least for the first part of that trip, i felt like my grandfather's ghost was hovering over me. he was a big sears fan, and no doubt had a few craftsman metric wrenches in his garage, having owned both a vw and an opel, not to mention my mom's triumph.

i'm reasonably certain, though, that his ghost wandered off to look at lawnmowers or something while i was bra-shopping.

i heart sears, too. they are the home of the magical jeans! also, they carry the only bra i've ever loved.

there always seems to be an overabundance of staff in the tool & appliance sections, but never in the clothing areas. i guess the bulk of their business comes from the manly departments?

well, i guess they do have the more high-ticket items in the tool & appliance areas.

the tool guy said the he works on comission, but i get the impression that the clothing folks do not.

Bra: metric or English? ;-)

Tool guy on commission at Sears? I didn't realize that major retailers did commission. (Every day, I learn something new that I should have known already.)

Tools at Sears: Some years ago, two guys from my office and one woman were all getting married around the same time, so the office threw the men a joint groomal shower. The ringleader got them "registered" at the Sears tool department at Northgate (a novelty to them) and we had a fun time presenting them gifts while they sat atop a step ladder as the "seat of honor".

Sadly for the ringleader, his own wife soon and severely screwed him over.

i always think of my grandpa (my zayde really) when i go to sears. he worked there for many years, in the home/repair section. we used to go visit him at work when i was little . . . and he and my bubbe got me my tv/vcr with his employee discount when i went to college and didn't want to spend my weekends going to frat parties.

so i found it odd that sears makes you think of your grandfather too!

i think sears was a big thing with folks of that era. it was a place where you could get everything (have you ever seen the old sears catalogs where you could order a pre-fab HOUSE??) and the warrantees were good.

the tool guy told me that with the craftsman wrenches, if one ever breaks, i just bring it into a store and they hand me a new one. lifetime warranty.

my grandparents also went to montgomery ward a lot, too. i think it was similar.
