i have a crappy attitude

i wrote this whole blog entry in my head last night, while i was trying to go to sleep, about how my attitude sucks and the vacation outlook for this year is pretty dim.

i'll spare you.

i thought to myself, "i'm a resourceful person. if i really wanted to, i could probably create a great vacation using just $5 and a stick of gum."

that is, of course, an exaggeration to show my resourcefulness. but i wonder what sort of vacation i could come up with using just $5 and a stick of gum? hell, i can't even spend a week at home on $5. you probably can't even get dinner from the krishnas for $5 these days (i seem to recall that it was $3 back in 1991). i might have to up the budget a little. but that stick of gum will sure come in handy somehow, i just know it.

mostly, i'm just kind of sad at the prospect of travelling alone. i enjoy doing that maybe once every ten years. for the rest of the decade, a vacation is best spent with others.

maybe i need to spend a week at home working on my social skills.

You could go camping at Eno River State park. We could lend you a tent. It would cost more than $5 and a stick of gum, but we could all come out and visit you at your campsite so you wouldn't be alone all the time ...

Oooh, wait ... advertise your services as an in-home petsitter somewhere like Asheville. Then you can stay in their house AND they'll pay you! So you could come out ahead in the end!

i think you're officially more resourceful than i am. and have a better attitude :)

It would cost more than $5, but you could always come visit us. We would do social things with you. Plus the accommodations are free, and I could probably dig up a whole pack of gum somewhere. :-)

If the $5 doesn't include the money you would spend on food and fuel if you weren't on vacation, then you can do a whole lot.

i saw a book yesterday called... uh, something like "walking tours of the triangle". i think it cost about $5. ;-)

Ok I'm trying again, optimistically hoping you just missed my other comment and aren't ignoring me. You could come visit me in "fabulous" San Francisco. We could catch up AND you could stay for free! Living here is the pits but I hear it's a nice place to visit :) And we do have some pretty cool shoes out here...

wow, you guys are all over this vacation thing!

so let's see...

- camping, i actually do have a tent. hell, i have a camper! and it seems reasonable that she'd be put back together in time for some fall camping.

- exotic west coast vacations. well, sadly, i can't have my blast from the past san francisco/seattle double header due to a lack of funds. maybe next year.

- AN ENTIRE PACK OF GUM. this is an offer i simply cannot refuse. that's it-- i'm driving out to indy! seriously. at 43mpg, it won't cost much more than $5 anyway.

- walking tours of the triangle. actually, this sounds totally cool! where did you see that book? maybe after i get back from indy, i'll take more time off and just walk around the triangle. seriously.

i'm happy to report that my attitude is less craptacular now, too. thank you!

i saw the walking tours book at the one and only bookstore at the "prime outlets" mall near the airport. (the mall with the saks outlet.) it was in a rack right in the middle of the doorway.
