Framed!!

holy crap-- this interview with George Lakoff is astoundingly fantastic and eye-opening. If you just brushed past it on boingboing this morning you need to go back and actually read it... seriously.

"Well, the progressive worldview is modeled on a nurturant parent family. Briefly, it assumes that the world is basically good and can be made better and that one must work toward that..... The conservative worldview, the strict father model, assumes that the world is dangerous and difficult and that children are born bad and must be made good. The strict father is the moral authority who supports and defends the family, tells his wife what to do, and teaches his kids right from wrong."

Holy crap, I love George Lakoff. His book Metaphors We Live By made a big impact on me, and his other book Women, Fire, and Dangerous Things I haven't yet read but it's on my list. I'll put Moral Politics on there as well. Great article--thanks!
