I have a white friend from high school whose last name is "Ling". I heard about him for the longest time without knowing who he was, because I had always been on the look out for someone Chinese.
Ling Surname Origin
(Origin Teutonic) English, long, heath; also, a species of long grass; a long slender fish.

I knew a (non-japanese) girl whose last name was "Arata," which is japanese--there was often much confusion.

I occasionally get Hispanic junk mail, which amuses me, since my name is Basque, and Spaniards are my hated enemies! :) I also used to get a little spam destined for Asian Indians, since my name is also used by some of them. Go figure.
