careful what you wish for...

my basement is fully flooded today-- from each entry point where water comes in, not just from a couple. so basically there is water streaming across the floor from seven different points along the walls.

i haven't seen it like this in probably a year-ish. i had forgotten how gross it is! ugh!

we got about 2 inches of rain yesterday, putting us within spitting distance of an average rainfall amount for the year, although we still have a significant deficit from last year to make up.

We used to have flooding quite often and in the end, there's nothing you can totally do about it but ...

1. One great defense is to go all the way around your foundation and dig diagonally away from the foundation about 3 feet out and 1 1/2 feet deep so that there is a gradient of existing dirt facing away from the wall. Then take heavy plastic sheeting (long lasting stuff) and put it down all the way around the house). Then backfill the dirt on top of the sheet. You would be amazed how much this fundamentally helps.
2. You can seal the cement inside with something like polyurethane. This is a bit more expensive but will also help. You need to do the floor as well.

Hope this helps.
